COMPASSION FATIGUE SUPPORT SESSIONS

We've been running regular Compassion Fatigue sessions for a while now and the feedback has been great, with some regular attendess turning up most weeks to take advantage of a safe space to let all the stress go.

WILDLIFE RESCUERS, VETERINARY PROFESSIONALS & VOLUNTEERS

 

CF Support Sessions run every Sunday evening at 20:30, on zoom, for 90mins for Wildlife Rehabbers & Volunteers.

​

These sessions are FREE.   They are funded by us at the WCB.  They are run by me, Alana (these sharing circles are very simple but it's also relevant to reference that I am a Mental Health First Aider).

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THE SESSIONS?

The session will start with a breathing exercise.

​

Everyone then commits - by holding up a hand - not to share anything from the session outside the group and not to try and offer advice on anything heard within the group.

​

Everyone will then be invited to take it in turns to share their animal care experiences and perhaps any specific challenges that they have recently faced. Everyone else is invited to listen without trying to give advice or ‘fix’ anything for the person afterwards.

​

What we have found from running similar events in the past is that just the act of sharing and being listened to (without being judged and without anyone trying to then give advice) offers a great chance to feel supported within a safe space & enables the release of any thoughts that have been running on repeat in the background.

​

Just the act of listening to someone else share their experiences has also proved to be very nurturing and allows for a great release of tension, as everyone realises that they aren’t alone and that others are often experiencing the same challenges and feelings.

​

If everyone wants to, the session will finish with a short visualisation exercise to help attendees focus on what they love about their animal care work: everyone leaving the session rejuvenated.
