WILDLIFE CARE JOURNAL

TICKING_edited.jpg

Interesting (And Perhaps Unusual Cases) - Shared By UK Wildlife Rescuers / Rehabilitators, For The Overall Benefit Of Our UK Wildlife.

The point of this online ‘Wildlife Care Journal’ is purely to create a universal, public & shared platform for UK Wildlife Rescuers / Rehabilitators to specifically publish case studies, that they have found unusual and/or interesting, to play a part in growing general knowledge and experience within the Wildlife Rescue community and to also take advantage of a space that recognises Wildlife Rehabbers for the emergency care professionals that you are.

  • The WCJ will be published on the Wildlife Care Badge blog and in a pdf form, every quarter (January, April, July & October).  Submissions can be submitted through the WCB website in the 2 months prior to these months.

  • [Our first journal will be published in either October 2024 or January 2025, depending on how busy Rehabbers are and if/when they find the time to submit cases to be featured in our first edition.]

The criteria to submit cases is as follows....  [There will be a journal section for WCB Holder cases to be featured and a journal section for non WCB Holders.  The criteria is the same for both.]

CRITERIA:

  • In cases of illness/injury the casualty would need to have seen a Veterinary Surgeon, for the case to be featured in the journal.

  • All of the submitted cases will be checked over by wildlife experienced Veterinary Surgeons & RVNs to make sure that there are no welfare concerns regarding any of the cases.  (This is predominantly to protect the Rehabber who has submitted the case, from unnecessary public criticism.  All cases submitted will be entirely confidential - just like when sitting the Knowledge Assessments.  If there are any welfare concerns about a submitted case, those concerns would then just be shared, by me, Alana, with the Rehabber in question, to open up a supportive conversation on how to avoid any similar welfare concerns (for example, potentially improving rehabilitative practices and how we could set up a mentoring opportunity to enable this).  The WCB would never share the details of the Rehabber or case to our public audience.

[ We actually already have our very first case to be featured in our first edition, by our very first Badge Holder, Beth Ragan: HERE ]
